Outside Micrometers
Where a caliper is not accurate enough, a micrometer takes over, closing a calibrated spindle onto the work and reading to hundredths of a millimetre off the thimble. Machinists use them for shaft diameters, sheet thickness and finished turned parts, with sets covering successive ranges from one frame size to the next.
